Thoughts About Happiness

Do you want to be happy? Do you ever have that feeling that you should be doing something different with your life?

I’m going to get deep here…

I think most people are unhappy because they watch to much TV! ( I know you might not agree but bear with me…. I have some great thoughts here)

I created a term the other day when I was getting some thinking in and I call it “Brain Waste Time”. I’ll fill you in on what it means here in a few.

In life, I believe we exist to learn and experience the world and of course, reproduce. I believe we become unhappy and bored, because we stop learning. I think something inside of us creates this unsatisfied feeling of unhappiness to let us know, we need to get off our ass and learn and experience something new!

I’ll say Learning = Happiness!

We get caught up in a story when we watch TV. This story is a way for us to shut off our minds and distract us from experiencing new things. When our minds are shut off, we are not learning… we are in the story. We can learn something from the story, but I believe we get more satisfaction from learning and experiencing things through our own personal experiences. I say TV is “Brain Waste Time”!

“Brain Waste Time” is when you chose to do things that distract you from doing the things you want to do! Now think of the things you want in to experience or want you want in your life? Examples can be Exercise, A project in the House, Helping your kids with homework, going to the Store, or whatever goals you may have.

Examples of “Brain Waste Time” are getting on Facebook check you email, back to FB and you do this over and over and over again for hours… Who’s done that? I know I have! Brain Waste Time can be different for everyone… To figure out what it is … Try to think of what you do on a consistent basis to distract you and go into that mindless comfort zone.

My goal of putting this out there was to help people gain some awareness of themselves. There are so many awesome and amazing things to experience and do in life and there’s so much value when you become proactive and start doing it… Take a second and think about a baby. When a baby comes into the world everything is new and exciting. We are no different than a baby… Life is filled with infinite things to learn and do…

Somewhere along the lines we lose this excitement because we come up with our belief systems of what we think is true and shut down our ability to learn new things. (When you believe something to be true, why take in any information that may prove you wrong?… No body wants to be wrong) I will say I don’t know anything and I’m open every day to learn whatever life wants to teach me… just like a baby!

When you learn that life is filled with these infinite things to learn and experience and you become proactive to learn and experience new things… life all of a sudden becomes fun and exciting. Think about it?

I recently read an article that said depression is at an all time high… I personally believe that TV is the number one cause of depression! What do you think?

Time For Change

You Have The Choice To Change Your Life

What if I told you that the reason you are not achieving the things you want in life is because you don’t really want to achieve them? As a personal trainer my goal is to help my clients improve their lives by making choices to create a healthy lifestyle. I learned in my own life as well as training hundreds of clients that the only thing that prevents people from achieving results is our OWN SELF-LIMITING BELIEFS and LACK OF ACTION!

We all have self-limiting beliefs that have come from experiences and things we have learned in our past. In many cases they have come at an early age when we were to young to question and rationalize to come up with our own conclusion. We then believe these things to be true and develop our lives in a way that limits us from achieving things we want. One thing I know is human beings are capable of achieving and creating incredible things when they set their mind to it. This includes YOU!

These self-limiting beliefs often discourage us from taking action because we fear failing. This leaves us feeling hopeless and stuck. Often the hardest part to creating a change in your life is taking that first ACTION step. It’s a step into the unknown! Many fear this unknown, because there is no control, which will leave you feeling unstable and uncertain.

I want to give you a different perspective to looking at the unknown. Instead of fearing it, be excited. Be excited because this is where you can create new and beautiful things in your life. There will always be fear… That’s OK! Fear is just letting you know there’s a change happening in your life and gives you the opportunity to choose to create the change or keep things the way they are. Fear is a positive thing and serves an important purpose in our lives. When you’re looking to create change in your life, you have to face your fears to move past them! You are capable of doing this. It takes courage, patience and persistence… You can do it!

It easy for me to explain the things you can expect when creating changes in your life, and it is simple in theory, but as you move forward there will be challenges. These challenges are part of the process. Some will come from of your own thoughts and others will come from external sources. This is where determination and hard work come in. Understand that they are going to come! Set your mind that your going to succeed and that challenges are only there to test you to make sure you want to succeed!

I’m providing you this information to empower you to make changes in your life. My hope is that this will help you lay a foundation to be successful and understand the process of change. This should help you set the right mindset to handle the challenges to come.

Here’s some basic’s to creating change in your life: 1) Want the Change- be willing to do what ever it will takes! 2) BE PATIENCE… this is the most important discipline with change… nothing happens overnight! 3) Know what Actions you need take and take them! 4) WORK HARD… Hard work is necessary… Change is not easy! 5) Understand there will be a process of learning (remember the best learning lessons come from failing… it’s where you learn the most). 6) Be Determined… DON’T GIVE UP!

You are capable of creating change in your life! As Nike says… JUST DO IT!

Till next time…

Improve your childs odds!!! You can make the difference!

Here’s something to think about… If you are feeding your kids fast food you may be setting the stage for them to be obese and overweight!… This is something that needs to be considered by all Americans! The percentage of Americans that are overweight is around 60 percent… Think about that… 60%… This percentage means your kid has more than a 50/50 chance of being overweight… But you… have the power to put the odds in their favor and teach them to make healthier eating choices… FAST FOOD IS NOT HEALTHY!

Eating Habits and Patterns are developed at early ages… so if you are innocently feeding your kids fast foods you may be creating bad habits for them in the future… As a personal trainer on of my biggest challenges is helping people to break old habits of eating… and in most cases these habits have come form childhood. I know this may be upsetting for some to read but I post it so you can make better choices for your children!!!

Can You Handle Life’s Challenges?

In life, things rarely go as planned and I feel there’s value in that! I think there a couple things happening here. One is that life is making sure your plan is something you really want, and second, it’s helping you learn lessons that will be valuable in the future!

Last week I had my own life challenge happen to me. I started this year out with some business and financial goals and everything was going great. I’ve worked hard and put much time and effort into what I was trying to accomplish. Last week I had something inexpertly happen that completely knocked me off course form my goal. It sucks and definitely knocked the wind out of me, but I’ve been challenged many times in life and I know this is part of PROCESS to reaching my goal. I’m not going to hit my financial goal in the time frame I hoped, but I’m not going to stop till I do. When I get knocked down, in my mind I have not choice but to get back up and keep working. If not it’s not something I really want.

When you look at my situation form an external standpoint, it looks like I’ve failed, but when I reflect on the lessons I’ve learned and what I’ve created, it’s been an amazing successful year. I’m way further ahead then where I was last year at this time. My goal is something I what to create in my life, so I will now set some new goals because life has forced me to change. (this is an inevitable part of life) Then I will get refocused and continue working hard toward my new goal. I look at this as life testing me to see if this is something I really want?

I’ve learned through my own life experiences and from helping clients reach their goals that life rarely goes as planned. When you set some goals be carful with what you expect, because I can almost assure that life is going to throw some unexpected events and challenge you. It’s all part of the process and there’s much value in the lessons you will learn. I like to encourage you to look at life challenges as learning lessons that add value to your life. It makes the challenges a positive thing and get you closer to reaching your goal. Love the challenges!

Thinking Long Term is the First Step to Reaching Your Goal

My personal goal is to help clients create long-term results! One of the biggest challenges I face as a personal trainer is teaching my clients to think long term and not expect immediate results. This doesn’t mean that they won’t see result in the short term, but helps them to create the mindset for their long-term success.

In our society we are bombarded with marketing and advertising about getting results quickly and with little work. Think about all the advertising you see on TV or hear on the radio about losing weight, getting in shape, or making lots of money. What are they selling? “Quick Results”. I personally think these are unethical practices and misleading the public to think that results come easy and with little work and have influenced society as a whole to focus on immediate gratification. I have trained 100’s of multimillionaire entrepreneurs and I am yet to meet one who got rich quickly. They have all worked extremely hard over long periods of time to achieve their success. This applies to losing weight and getting in shape as well!

In life you create habits. These habits are patterns of how you live your life. In many cases your not aware of your habit because you do them without thinking. They are part of who you are. When you are looking at creating something new in your life such as getting in shape or losing weight, you need to create new habits. You do this by consistently taking actions over a long period of time till you do it without thinking and it becomes a part of how you live your life. In a quick fix program you are not taking these consistent actions over a long period of time, so you’re not creating the necessary habits for long-term success. Therefore, you fall right back into you patterns of your past and right back to where you started.

Using personal trainers as an example. We are in shape and healthy because it’s our lifestyle. We don’t just snap our fingers and achieve the results to look and feel the way we do. We make a conscious choice to be healthy, and make choice over and over again, and it’s become part of our life. It took time!

The problem with quick fix programs is they take out one of the most important elements to being successful, and that is “Time”. It takes time and commitment to be successful along with hard work. You are that much closer to being successful when you go in with the mindset of knowing it’s going to take time and hard work to reach your goal. Setting this mindset is the first step to being successful!

Learn to think LONG-TERM and you’ll be much closer to your goal!

Let’s Get The Ball Rolling!

I was just talking to a friend yesterday and he told me he’s at his heaviest weight in his life. He went on to tell me what that he wanted to lose weight and get back in shape (which I heard a couple times in the last year) and then told me the things he needs to do to accomplish this. The problem is that he is not doing the things he told me he needed to do. This is a very common story I hear when I talk with people about creating a healthy lifestyle. Why is this?

The truth is that it’s hard to START exercising and eating healthy! I don’t say this to discourage you, but to allow you to set the proper mindset and have reasonable expectations for starting a healthy lifestyle. Your mindset in my opinion is the most import part to being successful! This is my biggest focus when I start a personal training program with my Santa Monica Personal Training Clients.

What’s the solution? Take action… It creates motion!

I want to give you an analogy. I want you to picture a large heavy ball that’s taller and weights 50 pound more than you. Now think how hard it is to get the ball to move. It takes a lot of effort, right? Once you get the ball to move and it starts rolling, it gets easier and easier to move. If you let the ball come to a stop, it will require the same amount of effort it originally took.

Starting a healthy lifestyle is no different. It’s very hard to get started but after you do, it get easier and easier to keep the ball moving. This doesn’t mean there wont be little hills that challenge you along the way, but my point here is the effort it takes to start something. Every time you stop, it’s always hard to get started again.

Just think if you stop as your pushing the ball up a hill… The ball’s either going to roll back down the hill and you have to start over or you’ll have to get it moving uphill. The lesson here don’t stop when your in a challenging situation because it’s not going to be easy getting that ball moving up hill or you have to start over at the bottom of the hill. The hill not going to move, you have to work hard to get over it!

I can tell you as a professional who lives a healthy lifestyle that’s it challenging for me as well getting started after a vacation or weekend of making poor choices (drinking or eating junk). It’s always challenging to get the ball rolling, but I always do because it’s important to me to be healthy and get the benefits that come form it. (Energy, feeling good, thinking clear, positive attitude etc….)

Always remember to keep the ball rolling when you start an exercise program or eating healthy.

Take Action… It will create motion! And don’t stop, because the motion will create results. Keep the ball rolling!

Do You Have The Courage To Step Outside Your Box?

I want to help you create some awareness about human nature and yourself, so you have an understanding of what it takes to create change and be successful reaching your goals!

Whenever you decide you want to create a change in your life there will be challenges, because you’re stepping out of your comfort zone. Let me give you an idea of what I mean:

In life you develop patterns of how you live, and these patterns are habits. Think of these habits as your “Box of Life”. Life in the box is very comfortable. When you create a change in your life you are stepping out side this box, and this will leave you with an uncomfortable feeling. This feeling is letting you know that something is changing in your life, therefore gives you the choice to choose to make a new box of life or live in your old box. There’s always a choice… this is what I’m hoping to make you aware of!

Human nature is to always take the path of least resistance. We learn to live our lives to feel comfortable in the environment we live. To create change, you have to get out of this comfort zone, and let me tell you “it’s NOT easy”. If you want to create changes in your life it’s going to require dedication, persistence, consistency, hard work, and patience. The challenge is staying out of our comfort zone! This is how we grow and learn as human beings.

I suggestion you stay out of your comfort zone and learn to love the uncomfortable feeling that comes with change. It’s just letting you know that growth is coming and in my opinion this is one of the things that life’s about!

Till Next time… STAY OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE!

Are You Accepting Where You Are At?

Here’s my second Video. I talk here about accepting where you are at and it’s importance to creating changes in your life. Many times in my career I’ve seen people who want to make changes in their lives, but are not honest with themselves with their current situation.

Accepting where you are at gives you a starting point. For example: If you have 50 pounds to lose, are out of shape and your health is not good… this is your reality. It can’t be denied… it is truth! I’m not trying to be insensitive here. I know how challenging it is of accepting this reality, and the courage it takes to do so, but it’s very important because it gives you the starting point of where your at, and allows you to set a goal to where you want to be.

It’s OK to be in your current situation… Your reality now, does not mean it will be your reality later. Change is always possible if you are willing to do what it takes to create it. With hard work, persistence, learning, and time you can create the change! Just be patience (maybe the most important parts toward making a change).

“I have brought myself, by long meditation, to the conviction that a human being with a settled purpose must accomplish it, and that nothing can resist a will which will stake even existence upon its fulfillment.” Benjamin Disraeli

PS… My personal goal it to get the best information out to you possible… please provide me any feed back… good or bad! Criticize me… This helps me improve! I love constructive criticism. Thank in advance!

Till Next Time…
